Their candid stories are brimming over with love, happiness, passion, family values and the markings of individuals who have truly lived well and loved life.

Ann’s Story (Resident of Laurelwood at The Pinehills)


What is your name and where were you born?

My name is Ann Gardner Simmons and I was born in June of 1939 to Kenneth and Virginia Henrich at Moore Hospital in Brockton, MA. My nickname, just to my family, was Annie. I have a sister: Cynthia.

 

What kinds of things did your family do together when you were young?

My Father raised horses and we shared that love.

 

What did you love to do with your friends?

Spent a lot of time with cousins. Linda and Rebecca. Going to movies, shopping and cooking etc. We also loved anything to do with boys- talking about them, dating them as teens.

 

What schools did you attend? What were your favorite subjects?

Silver Lake High School. My favorite subjects were Science and Biology.

 

What are your children’s names?

Bradford Gardner Simmons & Marsha Miter Yalden

 

What are some special memories you have about your children?

Travelling with mother and father and kids (occasionally joined us).

 

Where have you lived?

Pembroke, Plympton, Rockland, Marshfield, and Sandwich.

 

Have you had jobs? Who did you work for and what did you do?

I was a nurse at South Shore hospital, Pembroke Hospital and Bayada. I was a school nurse at Dennett Elementary. I also spent 15 years as a private duty nurse.

 

What are some of your favorite things? Favorite colors? Favorite flowers? Favorite books? Favorite songs? Favorite foods? Favorite pets?

My favorite color: Green

My favorite flower: Daffodils

My favorite book: I love biographies and autobiographies, and true life medical stories.

My favorite food: pizza (mushroom), steamed clams & ice cream.

My favorite pets: Tramp (dog kids we had when younger)

 

What are some personal experiences that have especially touched your heart?

Lots of caring friends over the years.

 

What are your favorite things to do at Laurelwood?

Art, day trips, visits to restaurants, making cookies, watching people perform music / sing.
